How I Became a Farm "Wife"

Let me preface this by saying I apologize for the rambling. I am still a sleep deprived newish mom with a full-time job and a sick manchild. The whole "farm life" thing is new to me. Really all we have is 22 acres and a couple chickens, so I guess to some it's probably not even a farm. But it's definitely not city life. Seriously, I dodge chicken shit on my front porch every day and there is a cow that crosses our lane at the same time every night like clockwork. Any who, I grew up in what equates to a suburb to a city of 25,000 people. We never even had a dog or cat. However, my boyfriend grew up on his grandparents' 160-acre farm which consists of rented out corn/bean fields, pasture, a crick, and, from what I hear, a revolving door of different critters, the most consistent of which being his dad's small herd of cows.
We always talked about how if we had kids, we wanted them to grow up on a farm the way he did. I had no complaints as I remember telling my mom often that I wished we had grown up on a farm. I know the values that being raised on a farm instills in you: work ethic, dedication, fortitude, and an appreciation for animals and nature. It's not always an easy life but it is so rewarding.
After 5 years together we got pregnant with our first child. Two months after those two pink lines a property came up for sale as a heck of a deal and we jumped on it. It even has a crick. We then spent the next the next 9 months renovating the house before we moved into it, cleaning up the property, and having our baby girl (do not recommend doing all of these at the same time, the STRESS). Boy, did we find out why it was such a good deal. It took all of our money, free time, energy, literal blood, sweat, and tears. There is still so much work to be done but it's nearly unrecognizable from what we started with and full of so many possibilities. Our kids will have all the space they want to explore, let their imaginations run wild, and opportunity to learn things some kids will never even imagine. I wouldn't change any of it for the world. Except maybe for him to finally put a ring on it so I can be an actual farm wife.
Which do you prefer, farm or city life?
